Archie Rose:  The Still Room

Located in the former Rosebery distillery, The Still Room reimagines a production space into a layered destination for tasting, retail and brand immersion. The design honours the site’s industrial origins: the three original stills remain in place, suspended in time, their worn surfaces and patina acting as physical memory of the work once carried out in the room.

A new bar extends along the south wall, rising vertically like a library of spirits, its height and density creating a sense of theatrical scale. The palette is restrained, raw metal, timber and dark finishes to emphasise the luminosity of the bottles and the copper undertones of the retired stills. The intervention respects the building’s utilitarian shell, tempering its openness with new climate controls, lighting layers and a spatial rhythm that guides visitors from entry to tasting.

The retail space at the threshold is conceived as a calm, precise environment: organised, legible and tactile. Display systems, personalised bottling and curated rare releases are integrated as part of a continuous experience rather than a standalone shop. Throughout, the design balances reverence for the brand’s history with a clear forward-looking identity transforming the original distillery into a deliberate, atmospheric space for education, exploration and craft.
