Hampton Court, Potts Point NSW Concept design to Development Application
Client: Wynne Projects Set within the former Hampton Court Hotel on Darlinghurst Road, the venue occupies a site thick with Potts Point history. Built in 1915, the hotel hosted Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra, and in 1974 held a residency by a then-unknown AC/DC, said to have written “The Jack” during their stay. loopcreative was engaged by Wynne Projects to take the venue from concept design through to Development Application. Inside, a dark, low-lit palette of timber, brass and deep green runs through the bar, cellar and lounge, setting a late-night mood built for a drinking den rather than passing trade.
The signature move is a perforated metal screen wall to the laneway. Read from the street, the pattern resolves into the faces of the women who ran vice and sly-grog in the Cross through the razor gang years of the 1920s and 30s. Backlit gold against black, it turns the building’s edge into a piece of the neighbourhood’s own history, drawing the story of the street into the venue before you reach the door
